I have 33 years’ experience in the Building Services sector, having first started as an apprentice in the design office and on the tools before working towards a degree. Experience gained in retail contracting as a contracts manager and then working in a consultancy role in the NHS arena, exposed me to a wide variety of specialised projects. Having been associated with the Cymap suite of software throughout my career, I now concentrate on leveraging model centric design alongside detailed energy analysis to deliver high performance, low carbon emission buildings. Specialising in products such as Autodesk Revit, Cymap, Tas, Cyspace and Cylink, I work with our customers to develop workflows that enable them to make informed engineering decisions, during design and throughout the project lifecycle. SIMON BROWN PRODUCT MANAGER I have over 20 years experience in the software industry and have spent much of it working in the defence sector.Working on safety critical projects such as Real-time Command & Control systems for the RAF, I gained the skills and experience required to manage and deliver complex projects to exacting standards. Before joining Cadline, I was able to leverage my degree in Physics while working for the UK Defence Science and Technology Laboratory. I was involved in the development of applications that model the dispersion of hazardous substances through buildings and the environment. The software was used to establish exclusion zones for the Fukushima nuclear disaster. I was instrumental in overhauling the company’s software development processes to improve code consistency and quality and development efficiency whilst balancing contractual obligations with pragmatism. I was then responsible for capitalising on the companies highly regarded process infrastructure and standards compliance in order to provide external process consulting for small to medium enterprises.I now lead a fantastic software development team at Cadline, where I am responsible for ensuring we deliver timely and quality software that meets the requirements of our customers. DAVE CAVELL DEVELOPMENT MANAGER I have been working in the Building Services engineering industry for more than 35 years with extensive experience teaching the subject. I have spent time teaching at FE colleges and was a senior course tutor for the National and Higher National Certificates and then an Edexcel External Examiner at London South Bank University for five years. I am proud to be a member of the British Standard Institute committee for pipework related standards. I have also served as the Chairman of the CIBSE Home Counties North East region and remain an active member, recognised by being awarded the Bronze Medal for services to the industry. Before joining Cadline I worked for the Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering as Technical Officer. All these roles have led me to develop a detailed technical knowledge of Building Services engineering. GARY MANN MECHANICAL ENGINEERING SPECIALIST I have over three decades of experience of electrical distribution design and supervising projects for mains supply upgrades, standby generator replacement and UPS installations. This has involved coordinating and building solid working relationships with suppliers and contract installation teams to successfully deliver completed projects. I was also one of the early adopters of Cymap and specifically the electrical wiring package. As part of my role as a product champion at a large telecommunications organisation I provided guidance on the future direction of Cymap as well as coaching and developing project specific electrical design teams. I have been part of the core Cymap team at Cadline for more than ten years where I specialise in delivering implementation services for customers that use the electrical aspects of the product. DAVID WREN ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING SPECIALIST 02 MEET THE EXPERTS ASHLEY RICE BUILDING SERVICES TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST My career started as a mechanical engineer working in the domestic sector, concentrating on plumbing, heating and gas installations. A decade ago I decided to move into building services design when I gained a HNC level Engineering qualification and applied my CAD and mechanical knowledge to leading companies such as Ideal Boilers, Uponor UK and Derry Building Services. Now, at Cadline where I work as a Technology Specialist, I am constantly developing new methods and solutions to allow our customers to get the most from the Cymap portfolio of products. My passion is for innovation and problem solving and I have found great success in helping some of the most advanced companies in the UK find new ways to get the most from our technology.
